U.S. Coast Guard  and the STCW-95 requirements for original Mate (OICNW) 500GRT; 1600GRT/3000GT & 3rd Mate Unlimited Near Coastal or Oceans.
Sea Service Requirements
1080 (8-hour) days of qualifying sea service:

180 days as Able Seaman while holding AB (for 500GRT) 360 days over 50Tons for 1600GRT/3000GT; with 360 days over 100Tons.

For 3rd Mate Unlimited all 1080 over 200GRT with 540 days of total over 1600GRT

Proficiency in Survival Craft/Lifeboatman
